October BOM: Vintage Airplanes

October 04, 2017 by Tacoma MQG

This month we will be doing a pattern specifically for boys, the "Vintage Airplane" block. The PDF pattern can be found here in PDF format.  We will use a white print of any sort with letters, words, numbers or any type of text for the background. For the plane, please use red or turquoise prints. It would be super if everyone could make both a red plane and a turquoise plane - so we'd have a whole squadron of planes!

The plane itself has some interesting directions, as it isn't pieced in the traditional sense.  Sharon followed the pattern and had no problems, and if you take your time you shouldn't have any problems either. But if you'd rather piece the plane traditionally, that is fine also. Karen has included some cutting directions for us in her photos at the bottom of the post, as the pattern has the cutting requirements for the whole quilt.

Taking your time, reading the pattern carefully and cutting accurately will help ensure you are successful in "building" your planes! The block will finish at 9 inches (9 1/2 inches raw edges).   Good luck and happy sewing!
