February BOM: Tropical Bento Box

To escape the dreary rain, we'll be pretending we're on a trip to somewhere warm and sunny in the tropics and use white with some tropical brights: yellows, oranges, corals, limes, hot pinks, purples and turquoises in all solids (no white-on-white please). Scroll to the bottom of this post for an inspiration graphic for colors.

This month we'll be doing the Bento Box block in tropical-inspired solid colors. This block uses 2 1/2 inch strips and will end up at 12 1/2 inches big, and the tutorial can be found here. Please mix and match your colors within a block, with white always being the light in the block. Keep one color throughout one quarter of the block though. So, the block would end up white with 4 different "darks" (one color in each corner) in each block.  Enjoy!

• We had sign-ups for committees and also talked about our upcoming election for officers in June. You can volunteer to help with one event or more. It’s never too late to join a committee, check out the descriptions on the website and see what fits you best. If you’d like to run for an office, talk to one of the Officers. They would have happy to explain their duties. We welcome anyone who wants to contribute their time and talents! This is what makes a Guild great.

January BOM: Across the Square

Happy New Year's Eve!

For January, we'll be making the "Across the Square" block, and using Seahawks colors of navy blues, greys and bright lime greens. The block will finish around 14 inches. Please do not trim down! There are a lot of seams in this block so please work carefully and be mindful of your 1/4 inch seam allowance.

December BOM: Anita's Arrowhead

Our block this month will be the Anita's Arrowhead pattern. We will be using raspberry pink, lime green and black & white prints for this one. Please use the cutting directions on page 5 for the 12 1/2" block. Use the pink or lime (or a pink & lime green fabric) for one starting square and a black & white print for the 2nd starting square. This is an easy block to do, if you follow the directions carefully. Be very careful with this block - all the edges will be on the bias in the finished block. You can use starch on the two starting squares to minimize any stretching. Also, do not trim the edges of the blocks, which will be uneven when finished.
